Set is an MS-DOS/Windows Command Line command. Its purpose is to assign values to variables. A basic text string can be assigned without using any switches, ie. set variable=value. A variable can be set using the user's input with the p switch ie. set /p variable=prompt text. Arithmatic expressions require the a switch to function ie. set /a variable=expression.
